House Happenings

Each month we provide residents with at least two educational or enrichment activities. These activities are a great way for the
residents to spend time together as a community and to enjoy special events. Some of these events take place outside of the house
like going to the zoo, museum, or aquarium while some take place in the comfort of Casa de Paz.

We celebrated Easter earlier this Spring. For many of the children it was their first time doing an Easter egg hunt! They also made Cascarones, a tradition from Mexico. The cascaron—a shell filled with confetti and dyed or decorated like a traditional Easter egg—is said to bring good fortune when cracked over a person’s head.

We celebrated the start of summer with yard games, pizza, and ice cream cones!
Make Music Cincinnati came and taught the children how to play the ukulele.

We started a new after school program for the kids in the house. Every other week volunteers facilitate developmentally appropriate activities with the children. We typically make a snack, a craft, and then have play time outside or in our playroom. During this time, moms are encouraged to rest or practice self care.

We beat the heat by going bowling! For half of our residents this was their first time bowling. The children had a great time and the moms seemed to enjoy the competition, moms vs. children!

We celebrated Mother’s Day with lunch, gift bags, and facials from a volunteer.

John is our summer employee funded by the Urban Health Project. Here he is playing baseball with one of the children.
