Frequently Asked Questions
For Survivors
-
There is no maximum. We generally see residents stay an average of three to six months as Casa de Paz is a program to support women as they take the time they need to heal and reach independence. We generally don’t accept families who only plan to stay for one night, unless there are extenuating circumstances, as Casa de Paz is not set up for short term stays. We evaluate whether Casa de Paz is the right fit for your situation during your intake phone conversation with the Executive Director or Family Support Coordinator.
-
Yes, children are welcome at Casa de Paz.
-
Dogs and cats are permitted to stay in your room with you provided they are house trained and are well-behaved. Casa de Paz has the right to ask that the pet be moved to a temporary home at any time if the animal is not well behaved or house trained. Residents will be asked to sign a pet policy before entering Casa de Paz.
-
Our house has 4 bedrooms, each bedroom accommodates a woman and her children, as well as one single room. In total, we can accommodate up to 16 people at one time.
-
We have five rooms available, and one family is assigned to each room. In each room there are beds, dressers, and a closet or hanging rack. All beds come with fresh linens that can be kept by the resident when they leave the house. The entire family shares the bedroom. The kitchen, dining room area, playroom, and a living room are all community living spaces. There are 3 full baths and 1 half bath. 2 restrooms are located on the residential floor and are shared between the residents. Outside there is a playground and a garden. You are permitted to grow food and/or flowers in the garden space.
-
Residents can bring clothing, personal items, important documents, favorite children’s toys, small household/kitchen items, and food. For whatever you cannot bring, we can refer you to partner agencies that can get you the items you need. The rooms are large but as the entire family shares, it is important to be mindful of that when gathering your belongings.
-
Yes, you can bring your own car. Street parking is available.
-
Weapons, large furniture, drugs/alcohol.
-
Casa de Paz provides a safe space for women and their children. During the stay at the house, residents meet with the Family Support Coordinator to set individualized goals. Based on those goals, support and referrals are provided. We often connect and support women to legal/immigration assistance, ESL classes, basic resources like food & clothing, and healthcare. See our programming page for more information.
-
CDP encourages residents to utilize their resources to purchase food for their families. We also have a partnership with nearby food pantries and La Soupe, a non-profit that provides food donations. Whatever else is needed CDP buys for the residents. Residents each have their own shelf in the fridge, as well as pantry space.
-
To keep our residents and staff safe, all residents and community partners are asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement. Keeping our location confidential is one of our most important policies. Residents should also be aware that if they have children they are to be supervised at all times, they cannot be left alone. Casa de Paz does not discriminate based on socio-economic background, education, race, or ethnicity.

Screenings are done when a survivor who is interested in the program calls in. We have to talk to the survivor herself, we cannot talk to a case manager or friend (unless there is an extenuating circumstance). Screenings take place over the phone or in person if appropriate. The survivor will be asked to share a bit about her experience and what type of assistance she is looking for. We will then share details about the house and our programming. At the end of the call we will let the survivor know that the information will be shared with the Director and our Executive Committee. We will give her a time frame of when to expect a call back from.
-
If the survivor is interested in our community and we have space for her at the house, we will offer her a room.
